Who Are We?

The Northern Virginia Vietnam Veterans Foundation (NVVVF) was founded as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding and accelerating support for veterans and their families—of all generations—facing urgent financial hardships in Northern Virginia.

NVVVF proudly serves as the fundraising arm for Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 227, building on the Chapter’s 40-year legacy of service to Northern Virginia’s veteran community.  Inspired by our mission to “Leave No Veteran Behind,” we strive to be the trusted resource for delivering immediate, compassionate assistance to veterans and families in need.

Because NVVVF is entirely volunteer-led with no paid staff or overhead, 100% of donations go toward funding assistance for veterans and their families.

What is the Problem?

More than 150,000 veterans call Northern Virginia home.  Many are struggling with the ever-rising costs of:

  • Housing & Utilities

  • Food & Essential Needs

  • Emergency Repairs

Adding to this challenge, over 11,000 local veterans work for the federal government or its contractors—an employment sector impacted by actual and future job cuts. The result?  A dramatic increase in demand for emergency assistance. That's why NVVVF exists — to ensure VVA Chapter 227 can meet these needs immediately.

What Does NVVVF Do?

NVVVF funds Chapter 227 to deliver immediate assistance to veterans and their families across Northern Virginia.  Working in partnership with Virginia State and local government departments, Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs), and other veteran-focused charities, Chapter 227 responds quickly when urgent needs arise.

Our funding supports:

  • Emergency Financial Assistance — Rent, utilities, car repairs, food, and other essential expenses.

  • Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program — Support for veterans and families transitioning from homelessness toward stability and independence.

  • Family & Community Aid — Extended support through VFW, American Legion, and local charities.

  • Special Grants — Urgent needs for wounded warrior families and others in crisis.

Through these efforts, NVVVF ensures Chapter 227 can carry forward its 40-year legacy of “Leaving No Veteran Behind.”

Recent Impact

NVVVF and Chapter 227 have provided vital financial support to veterans and their families over the past year, ensuring immediate help for those in crisis:

  • $16,000+ in emergency assistance for rent, utilities, car repairs, and food for more than 30 veterans and families.

  • $13,500 to VASH support for 112 veterans and family members.

  • $3,000 in grants to help wounded warrior families with urgent needs.

  • $1,000 to The Lamb Center, a local nonprofit serving homeless veterans.

As a volunteer-led organization with no paid staff or administrative overhead, NVVVF ensures that 100% of every donation goes toward funding assistance for veterans and their families in need.
